My doggie bag literally became a “handbag” when my sewing machine experienced unexpected senility. As a result, I began to feel closer to my bag in doing it “by hand”—a sort of “hands on” approach.

Our adopted beagle, Charlotte, was to be put away by her former family due to incontinence and the need to have her caged. This is her memorial. It is to a dear friendship—fraught with the problems of relationships. Through it, I gained patience, especially when she began to open the refrigerator door.

Within her bag are tucked the words: joy, fun, responsibility, love and simply life. I trimmed her special soft loving ears in gold. Then, I added a Cubs cap and a slogan that appealed to my pacifist philosophy.
