share
We have seen it from the moon
And still we see our neighbor as other
My first sketches involved the earth. Then the image of the butterfly, as a symbol of hope, inspired a new direction. This work has images of butterflies used by many cultures over 2500 years.
Many cultures, many languages, one image!
Two layers – one of silk organza with printed and cut out images and photo transfers of the word butterfly in many languages. The second layer was constructed using “Freelace” (which is a term to used to describe a created cloth). This created cloth is made with ribbons and yarns that are laid out on a tacky fibrous surface which is water soluble. These threads are covered with another water soluble clear membrane and then a grid pattern is stitched on the sewing machine. After the water soluble has been washed away, appliquéd images of butterflies are added.
