WHAT I REALLY NEED IS A WARM WINTER COAT.
IN MY CLOSET THERE'S NO MINK OR EVEN A
GOAT.
ENOUGH OF THIS FIBER ART TO HANG ON THE
WALL,
JUST WRAP IT AROUND THIS OLD DOLL.
This piece is inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement (1870_1900)
and especially the floral designs for fabric and wallpaper created by
William Morris, who mourned the loss of craft in the industrial production
of home furnishings. Now in our fast-paced world of technology e-mail,
cell phones, palm pilots and instant-everything, it’s difficult to find
the tremendous amount of time needed to make something by hand.
Handwork, though, is portable and allows
me to us every free Moment toward creative endeavors. Thus, my coat became
feasible.
Stepping into the pre-industrial era,
allowed me to feel connected with my roots and
gave me time to smell the roses.
