One of the joys in weaving is exploring the endless variety of
patterns done through the years—many of which have botanical names. My
coat fabric is a type of hand-weaving pattern which is not related to
machine work—usually not copied by industry—and only seems to be in
the possession of hand-weavers.
In the past, weavers closely guarded
their patterns, but over the years, with the combinations of designs, new
patterns have emerged. For my swing coat, I created a new pattern (I named
it Vivian’s Bouquet). It combines two overshot designs in a four harness
weave structure. The fibers used were silk, merino wool and rayon
chenille.
Finally, I now have a winter coat!!!
