  In 2000, my sister had surgery and I went to Denver to help during her recovery. We walked a mile and a half each morning, and again in the late afternoon. Her next door neighbors had moonflowers growing along the drive as well as across the front of their house. The flowers were closed during our morning trip. But as we ended our afternoon walks, the flowers were open.

          Most afternoons, the neighbors were sitting on the porch when we returned. They told us they were watching the moonflowers bloom. What a pleasant way to welcome the night. I have wanted to make something with moonflowers ever since.

          The outer fabric is a purchased hand dyed cotton, underlined with china silk. The moonflowers are made of polyester crepe. The leaves and stems are batik. The lining is silk.
