I chose to make my shoes using fall leaves. I continue to explore leaf shapes, colors, textures and changes in my other artwork so this was another fascinating way to work with them. My Leaf Kicking Boots are the realization of a mental image of fall leaves flying though the air on a walk in the woods. I can imagine the sound they make scuffing across the forest floor and see the sunlight flickering through them as I walk along.

I created the Leaf Kicking Boots by scanning a variety of real leaves and then digitally printed them on fabric. I backed them with other fabric, stitched the veins and details, cut them out, and then shaped and stiffened them into the boots.
